Q: How do you remove the ignition cylinder on a 1965 Ford Mustang?
I am restoring a 1965 Ford Mustang and I am having a hard time removing the ignition cylinder?

A: To remove the key cylinder you have to turn the key to the accessory position, stick a paperclip into the little pinhole on the face of the key cylinder and then turn the key around a little further in the counter-clockwise direction and it will come out.

Q: How much is a 1965 Ford Mustang worth today?
I'm interested in purchasing a 1965 Ford Mustang from a classified ad in the newspaper. The ad reads, "65 Mustang, 289, A-code, 4bbl auto, ac, good cond, runs xlnt. $4500." Is this a reasonable price? (I haven't been to see the car yet myself, but considering the seller is telling the truth and there truly are little repairs/it runs excellently...) Thanks!!

A: It sounds good. A code is a base 4 bbl V8. Is it a coupe, conv. or 2+2. Its make a big difference in price. A excellent condition car is price from $5000 to 20,000. Get a independent appraiser to check it out.

Q: Should I paint my 1965 Ford Mustang before I work on the rest of the car?
I have 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe. It it runs but it needs some work done to it. I am not sure if I should get it painted before I start working on the rest of it or not. I have been told to get it painted first because they will strip it and gut it so they can sand blast it and paint it. I was also told to get it painted last because you don't want the paint job to get messed up while you are working on it. I have looked through many different books and nothing has told me which to start with. Can anyone give me some guidance?

A: Do all the mechanical work first and make sure it all works and fits well. Then take it all apart and do the body and paint. Put it back together, add interior and glass, enjoy the car.

Q: How much (rough estimate) should is my 1965 Ford Mustang worth?
I have a 1965 Ford Mustang, it's a 200, inline 6, automatic. I'm the 3rd owner. It's not perfect, has never been restored, but the body is fine. There's NO rust on the vehicle. It was a Calif car (1st owner, 25+ years), then TX. I bought the vehicle in FL from the 2nd owner in 1998 and drove it off & on over the past decade. It runs but needs a tune-up, as the car has been garaged for the past 4 years straight and not driven at all in that time. This car is my baby and my dream was to restore it and get a true automotive education from it. Dashing that dream is not something I am really prepared or happy about doing. Life has made other plans, however, so I should probably sell this car. I am not quite sure how to go about selling it, or what a fair price for the vehicle would be. Please respond with your suggestions as to how to get it appraised or figure out its market value. Also, can anyone recommend a good website for selling this? I paid $1500 for it in '98

A: Edmonds.com............#########

Q: Upgrade the engine in my 1965 Ford Mustang?
I have a 1965 ford mustang with a 200 ci 6 cyl engine and i would like to upgrade this as much as i can for 3000 dollars what options are open for me sry i dont know that much about cars.

A: This is a going to be a learning experience for you. Your main constriction is the money. You can MAYBE buy all the parts to make a proper conversion to a V8 since upgrading the suspension, brakes and cooling is also required but you will need to do ALL the work yourself since you have no more money. Being "i dont know that much about cars", this may be a stretch for you. You can also visit Clifford and get some go-fast parts for your car and you can afford the help of a mechanic to put it on for you. And it will be a more unique ride than every one else. http://www.cliffordperformance.net/

Q: Which 1965 Ford Mustang model is better?
All things equal, restored, etc. which 1965 Mustang is worth more, an automatic 6 cylinder Fastback, a 8 cylinder, manual coupe, or a 6 cylinder automatic convertible?

A: In this order, convertible, 2+2, and then the coupe .. the convertible will probably be left alone, while the 2+2 (correct name) will get the V8 restorod treatment.. Coupes, even with the V8 are only worth half of what a 2+2 goes for.. By actual book value the two are about equal according to OLD CARS PRICE GUIDE. So the 2+2 is catching up.. I have a convertible and a 2+2, and I don't buy coupes anymore after owning 4..

Q: How do i fix a blown head gasket on a 1965 Ford Mustang?
Water is coming out my tail pipe and the oil is milky, so how do i fix the head gasket or is the engine gone? How do i know if a head is cracked? Coolant is coming out of the tail pipe.

A: I would recommend either buying or borrowing (some stores let you borrow, and some public libraries have them) a '65 Ford Mustang repair manual. If the gasket is gone (it's just a thin piece of insulating material), replacing it is a pain, but not all that expensive if you do the work yourself. You will need mechanics' tools - which some stores will also let you use (AutoZone is one). If the head is cracked, you would see more problems than milky oil. It's probably not water coming out of your tailpipe, either. Get the manual or take it to a mechanic.

A: it fits fine sane yourself the trouble and money and get better performance with a aod instead.
