Q: 1970 Ford Mustang Engine replacement?
I have a 1970 Ford Mustang convertible that came with a 302 (not boss) that blew a rod. The numbers don't match and I would like to buy a crate or rebuilt engine to put in here. What engines fit and what do you recommend? Sure everyone likes a little horsepower though my main interest is to have something I can drive with the family and get decent gas milage. The old engine got 8 city and a max of 12 highway. Your help is appreciated.

A: If you want just a cruiser, not worried about max horsepower, then just look for a good rebuilt long block. Check in your local yellow pages, you should find a place that get you a good price on a rebuilt 302 since these have been around forever. A small 4 barrel carb is actually a better choice than a 2 barrel since it can adjust to the different driving conditions better than a 2 barrel and they operated a bit better. Check your rear gear in your car also, if you want better mileage, go with something such a 3.00 or lower (numerically) gear, this will lower the RPMs when driving and get a little better mileage, just won't be as fast off the line.

Q: Painless wiring harness part #20122 1970 Ford Mustang?
Does any one know where I can get a Painless Wiring harness for a 1970 mustang part #20122 for less then $700? It seems it only sells for about $760 when the Kwik Wire sells for less than half that.

A: It is available at this site for 650: http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=PW20122+01 Anyway, Painless makes by far the best harness kits. I was unable to find another company making this product. This is probably because painless kits are absolutely amazing and they dominate this industry. It is pricey, but when all the wires are in the right places and are the correct length. You will be very pleased. I have restored 3 first generation camaros, and the painless kits have never let me down. Let me know how it comes out. Good luck with that stang!!

Q: what parts are needed to put in power steering in a 1970 ford mustang?

A: Come on. Regular steering isn't that bad. I"ve driven a 66 Mustang with no power steering for 10 years. You get used to it. It's a real pain to convert over and IMHO not worth it

Q: where can I find (besides a junk yard) alternator brackets ford 1970 6 cyl ford (mustang, maverick, etc) ?
I am looking for the alternator brackets that came with the non-ac cars (they are two separate ones)

A: EBAY man. I get and sell a lot on ebay and if you watch or check every few days...you'll eventually find anything. Give it a try, just only buy from sellers that have a good feedback rating so that you know they are not in the business of ripping people off. Good luck and hope this helps....ebay is easy ;-) Is this one of them that you are looking for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-71-72-BOSS-302-MUSTANG-ALTERNATOR-TO-HEAD-BRACKET_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33573QQihZ010QQitemZ200157273425QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Mustang-351W-Alternator-Bracket_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38656QQihZ008QQitemZ180086793307QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

Q: 1969-1970 Mustang Chassis with 2005+ Engine?
I know with enough money anything is possible. But Can anyone give me an idea as to how easily a new generation 4.6 V8 will fit into a 1969 or 1970 Ford Mustang (most likely base V8 model, mach1 if i am really lucky)? I also figure i would have to strengthen the whole body to cope with the increased power, and yeah ill have to replace gearbox, drivetrain, etc. Its mainly an ease of mount, and engine size issue here. Practical info on the new 'stang is hard to come by in Aus :P

A: you picked a good mustang for this convert as this was the first one that was actually designed for a big block, that meaning a larger engine compartment. tha truth is u have to ask your self, what is my goal? if u have the body but no engine, that would explain this, but keep in mind the following, the new engines won't run without the computers. there would be alot of fabrication, and the new engine in the old car have to pass the the new engine emissions tests. so u r really not gaining alot r u? U can still repower a 70 stang with its own era of engines. this may be ur best option. and that ain't bad at all.

Q: what was the name of the 1970 FORD vehicle that looked like the mustang but was not the mach 1, not the torino
i think it maybe has the the name "Talledega" in it?

A: If you think it has the name "Talledega" in it, then it is the Torino Talledega. So called because it was the body style that Ford used in NASCAR races that year. They were rare because the rule was that in order for a car manufacturer to run a particular body style, the manufacturer had to make a minimum of 500 of that body style available to the public. That allowed that particular body style to be called "stock". Remember the Dodge Daytona and the Plymouth Superbird? Didn't see many of them on the streets did you? Sure, you saw one once in a while, but same deal there. Just enough were manufactured by Chrysler to be able to run that body style in NASCAR races. Otherwise, the only other car that would fit your description would be the rare '70 Falcon. That was the last year for the Falcon and it was very similar in body style to the '70 Torino. However, the Falcon did not have the name Talledega in it. Just the Torino Talledega.

Q: where can i find a 1970ford mustang mach 1 desk lamp?

A: try ebay or type in ford collectables and searvh

Q: Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang?
I am debating between buying a 1970 cougar or 1967 Mustang. Any opinions as to which one has the better ride and what engine to look for? Also, I know this is probably a silly question, but does anyone have any idea of mpg? Thanks.

A: If you are looking for performance the Mustang is the way to go. It's a much smaller and lighter car but the Cougar probably has a more comfy ride. Not sure if the Mustang had the big block V8 in 67 but that is what I would get. I think Ford's big block was the 429ci back then. Cougar's probably had a small block? Not sure though. Maybe a 351ci. As for mpg, why the hell are u asking that question about muscle cars? If u are really concerned about it. Be easy on the throttle and don't open all 4 barrels of the carburator. Might get 12mpg then :).

Q: How do I make valve adjustments on my car and where can I find the specs needed for the job?
Its a 1970 Ford Mustang with a 351 Cleveland in it.

A: cool car.. Buy a chiltons manual for it, only $20.00 and well worth it.

Q: I have a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta and a 1970 mustang and a guy wants to trade me a Skyline GTR r33 for my Jetta?
So what should i do? The skylines red with a sports evolution body kit and a dual gt spoiler turbo 5 speed manual 26000,ks 1 owner i know i chop and change cars but im hoping also to buy a ford GT. which ever side has the most answers i will follow

A: I'm prolly gonna catch hell for this, but I call B.S. Why would anyone want to trade an R33 GT-R for a Jetta? The only way I can see this to be possible is if the Jetta has more power than the driver knows how to use. OR...this guy is trying to off his problem on you. You do know that it's next to impossible to leagaly drive that GT-R on the street right? You have to have thousands of dollars in modifications to the body and engine to get it legal, and there is only one company that can do the engine modifications to get it legal. (Read engine modifications: Getting it OBD II compliant) If this guy is serious, be sure you make sure you know what you could be getting yourself into with this GT-R. Go here and prepare youserlf for what you may find out to be a bad deal if you go through with it. http://www.nicoclub.com/articles/skyline-import-1.shtml Now, don't get me wrong, I love the R33 GT-R and am saving money to buy one in 2 years or so, but I live in Japan, so I don't have to worry about the issues you do in the states. Take what I say however you want, but a guy wanting to trade a GT-R for a Jetta seems fishy to me. Remember, if it's too good to be true, it probably is.
