A: if your young or have a bad driving record consider the six cylinder its not as fast but they are nice cars also depends on how large your city is call your insurance people and they can tell you for sure and if you can afford consider firebird trans am with ws6 not really cute in my book but cool beyond belief chevy camaros are almost the same car but dont have hidaway headlights
Q: What year did the Pontiac Firebird first have airbags?
I need to know what year the pontiac firebird trans am first got airbags. I want one, but being young and having a V8 in a fast car, airbags might be helpful. Anyone know what the exact year is?
A: 1988 was the first year for Firebirds to come equipped with Driver Air Bag.
1993 was the first year for Firebirds to come equipped with Dual front air bags (driver & passanger).
Hope this answers your question.
Q: Is 90,000 miles on a 1999 Pontiac firebird ok for a used car?
I am planning on buying a used 1999 Pontiac Firebird. The car rides good but the only thing that bothers me is that it already has 90,000 miles on it. On an average maintained firebird, is 90,000 mies close to the end of problem free running? Also 5000$ (inclding dealer fee, tax and everything else) a good price?
A: The industry's standard is 12000 miles a year, so the mileage on this bird is high, but technically lower than expected. I am going to assume this is a v-6 car and not a formula or t.a. because if it were a v-8 car 5000 would be a steal. the 3.8 is not a horrible motor, my wife had one in her 96 bird......here are some things to look out for, lock and window switches are a little fragile, be sure to turn on the headlights and make sure they pop up and work, those headlight motors are notorious for breaking, have a mechanic with a scan-tool check the car's computer before you buy it......it will let you know what is mechanically wrong with the car, and it is very cheap and easy to have done. As a previous owner of one, I think 5000 is too much for something that old with that many miles. It is under book value however. Here is a link for pricing information on that car.
Q: Can someone help me find a 2bbl carburetor for my 1984 Pontiac Firebird?
It's a 1984 Pontiac Firebird, V6 base model. I have looked on countless websites, but all I can find are 4bbl carbs for V8 engines. I could really use some help. Also, if anyone knows of a good website for interior replacement parts (i.e. dashboards, steering wheels, shift knobs, etc.) specifically for Firebirds then let me know. I appreciate the help!
A: Here's one from advance auto's site. It aint cheap at $400
http://www.partsamerica.com/productdetail.aspx?MfrCode=HO2&MfrPartNumber=6470125
If you have a carb and it just needs rebuilding, then you can get the rebuild kit for $15 to $35
http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?PartType=428&PTSet=A
Now for your interior parts check out www.hawksthirdgenparts.com He will probbly have a new and used carb for uses as well
year one also has restore parts for the 82-92 firebird/camaro, so does paddock parts
Q: What is the 0-60 time weight and top speed of a 1974 pontiac firebird?
What is the 0-60 time weight and top speed of a 1974 pontiac firebird?
A: What engine? There were 1 six and 3 8's. I had a 455 formula that was 214hp and 285lb's of torque and was 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and went 143 MPH. Not the technology theyhave today as 400 came with 2 barreal and was 165hp and 210 torque. ^ was 135 hp and 155 torque. Not much on paper but faster then you think. Very heavy cars or engines I should say.
Q: Why is the shift lock on my 98 Pontiac Firebird locking up?
I have a 1998 Pontiac Firebird. I've had this problem for a little while but recently it has started to get worse and worse. I can start my car, remove my key and everything just fine. It's just when I try to shift out of park for the first time when I have the problem. I have to use both hands to get the shift lock to disengage so that I can shift gears. But once I'm out of park, everything else is like butta. Can anyone help me out? Thanks :o)
A: You have a problem in your brake shift/interlock circuit. When you step on the brake pedal a solenoid releases a lock that now will allow you to shift out of park, but only if you step on the brake pedal and the system is functioning correctly. This solenoid is usually mounted on the shifter assembly and can be heard as a click type noise when you step on the brake with the key in the on position.

I have a 97 Pontiac Firebird and i just installed new front breaks but when i shift into drive, something clicks by like the front right tired? never happened till i replaced the breaks. what could it be?
A: Assuming that you re-installed the caliper correctly; It MIGHT be you've got a CV joint going out.
Q: What is the light mounting code for a 2000 Pontiac Firebird fog light?
I am trying to replace the Fog lights on my 2000 Pontiac Firebird.
I have the kind of Firebird that has the Turn signal lights and the foglights right next to each other, and I have trying to find out the light mounting code for the fog lights.
I know that my Turning light code is 1157A, I would just like to know what the code for the Fog Light lamp is with out taking out the entire assembly, because so far it is very annoying to deal with.
A: the bulb number is 880 for standard and 880L for long life. gm part #9442876, list price $16 for the 880, and part #12450143 list price $21.86 for the 880L. Any auto parts store will have this bulb. Or, I have a brand new, in the box 880L if you want to buy it. I have more than one so if you want to buy two I can do that. One for $5, 2 for $10, + postage.
Q: what modifications do i have to do to the wiring to my 1981 pontiac firebird to change the motor to a 389?
i have a 1965 pontiac 389 motor and i want to put it in my 1981 firebird what do i have to change on the wiring???
A: Small block is small block. It will bolt up but you may have problems w/ sensors. An 81 wont have a lot to deal with so you may not have any problems. Just engine light. If you eliminate the computer alltogether it will work fine. I did this in an '87 Olds 442.
Q: 95 Pontiac Firebird leaking oil and check engine light is on?
I recently bought a 95 Pontiac Firebird and it has been running badly. I changed the spark plugs and the spark plug wires, then the coil packs, it runs a little bit better the Check Engine light is stil on and it is leaking oil in two spots, when you look under the car, one leak is coming from directly under the oil filter, and the other seems to be coming from the pipe that goes to the catalytic converter, or the oil could be dripping onto it perhaps, not sure there. Would a bad catalytic converter cause this? I'm sure that the oil filter needs to be changed but it kinda putt putts...

I'm not sure how to reply to answers so here goes: I took it to a place so they can use the dignosis thing on it and it just kept popping up ERROR. So that was a no go. Mmm, looks like I'm going to have to fork over a ton of money to see whats wrong.
A: if your cel is on, go to advance auto. they will plug in diagnostic tester for FREE and tell you what the issue is. as far as running poorly, it could be a myriad of things. an easy fix is to change the distributor cap and rotor. you could have a bad distributor, bad fuel injectors, some bad sensor like maf, air idle control etc. advance may be able to tell u what is bad. good luck. rob
catalytic convertor changes carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide i think. it has nothing to do with oil. an easy check is the gasket around oil pan. wipe it clean and see if it comes back. on the bad side u could have a major engine gasket issue. i am not familiar enough to talk about that
Q: What are the strong points of a Pontiac Firebird & how do they compare to other muscle cars.?
Which pontiac firebird model is the most improved/reliable: 00, 01, or 02. Pros and Cons?
A: Personally, I like LS1(98-02) models more so, the TransAm. I purchased a brand new black 98 M6 T/A back in 97 and owned it until 01. When it got totaled and then, I went over to my present ride of the 02 A4 Camaro Z28.
Which if, I remember corrently the 98 model still had the OBDI 'puter in it. Then, The General switch over to the OBDII on-board 'puters. Which was known as the black box. Where it recorded the events before and durin an accident, like speed, braking and some other stuff. Which the OBDI on-board 'puter did not.
Check out the sites below. To get some more info on 'em.
Good luck!
Q: I have a problem with a Pontiac firebird and ignition- the motor just spins?
i put a starter on it (pontiac firebird 94 - 3.4L) the other day, and the car wouldn't start up, so i noticed a wire that went to a sensor torn apart form the sensor just above the starter, what is this sensor? So anyway i put it together and the car started fine. I drove it home and the next morning i got a small backfire and just a spinning motor, no start up or anything just the motor turning.. please advise
A: check to see if you have any fire to the plugs. check that wire you fixed and see where its running to.
Q: How do i make my 1995 pontiac firebird 3.8l v6 faster?
hey i have a 1995 pontiac firebird 3.8l v6 and i wanted to know how I can make it fast almost like a 13 second 1/4 car?
A: 13 sec car ...... Really
Yes I agree with the engine Swap...
Ls1 ok
But I would do a LS2 with 6 speed or Automatic
From 05 06 GTO ..... Stock swap 13.0 runner
Change a few things at the same time 12.00 sec car easy.
Value vs 13 sec V6 firebird ?
Sell it and Buy a Trans Am with a LT1 and do a few mods on it and get below 13. sec's
Even can find LS1 Firebirds or T/A's from 1999 and 2000 now for sale for less than 3500 and get a 12.5 car
